Busy, busy, busy…but are you effective?

Some people think being busy is being productive. But if none of it is helping you to meet your deadlines or give attention where it’s needed, there’s not much value to it besides an adrenaline buzz. “Busy” isn’t a synonym for “effective,” so slow down.

We liked it because it speaks to everyone who is working hard towards the right goals, but find themselves spinning their wheels, and stressed out more times than not. All too often, it’s because of unproductive behaviors that people are unaware they have—possibly because they are moving too fast to notice them. Sometimes it pays to slow down, access the mayhem and adjust your plan accordingly.

“Time management problems aren’t always a simple fix, but there are some basic things you can try to cut back on unproductive busy work,” says Tina Hamilton, PHR, president of myHR Partner. “Effective leaders know how to manage their time in addition to their employees, and in fact, these two tasks often overlap.” Being able to keep your processes streamlined gives you more time to focus on your core responsibilities, build better working relationships within your team and increase efficiency throughout your company.
