TALENT HIVES: HR Trend Gets Much Buzz, Won’t Put Bee in Your Bonnet
Ever since Newsweek ran an article last month about talent hives, we’ve been seeing a whole lot of interest in this hot new business trend. Human resources professionals have swarmed to the Internet to find out more.
Naturally, we had to investigate.
What are talent hives?
Let us start off by saying, talent hives are natural progression of career networking in the digital age. They are communities of people who congregate based on a common interest in a specific company. These are individuals who want to be in touch with or have access to a particular organization. They could be job hunting, but don’t have to be. They could just be taking a look at what’s out there out of curiosity. Maybe they just really like or have a strong loyalty to that business’s products or services.
If this sounds a whole lot like a company Facebook page, Twitter feed or LinkedIn group, it’s because these social media outlets are very basic talent hives. Sometimes, organizations will develop more advanced online talent communities, as a means of having a welcoming place for interested professionals to, as well as for to learn more about potential job applicants themselves. This is the newest trend in attracting and retaining passive candidates. While it may not replace the need for headhunters, recruiters, etc., it can certainly skim off one or two fees along the way.
What Makes a Good Hive?
According to the Newsweek article, a full-fledged Talent Hive needs to be useful, have relevant content and not just a place to announce when an employer is hiring. Talent hives are private communities that need real-time, back-and-forth member interaction, so email newsletters don’t qualify. They also need activity and energy, or else they don’t have anything for you or prospective candidates to check out. Discussions, polls even meet-up opportunities are key to a buzzing hive.
So, Should You Break Out in Hives?
We were into talent hives before they were talent hives.
Really. We were.
hireVision’s NetSourcing service, has been integrating talent hives into it’s passive recruiting efforts since the service’s inception in 2011. “It’s just one tool that we use as we conduct various types of modern outreach to specifically target individuals in your area of interest and invite them to consider your position,” says Tina Hamilton, PHR, hireVision’s president and CEO. “We do this using a team of highly educated HR professionals who work in your best interest to seek out talent that meet your requirements, instead of unskilled placement agents.” By reaching out directly to prospective candidates, we take advantage of the ripple effect created by social networking and increase the odds that you may find the right person to meet all of your unique hiring needs. And you’ll gain valuable benchmarking and industry insight results along the way, too.
Consider NetSourcing this century’s version of employee referrals, but with a much further reach. And did we mention that we also don’t receive placement fees or commissions, so you only pay for the work we do? Yep. That’s how we roll.
