Why HR Audits Are a Smart Business Move

Picture this: Your company is growing, and everything seems to be running smoothly—until new employment laws require changes to your wage policies. Also,  recently passed state laws now mandate salary ranges on job postings and written justifications for compensation offers. Suddenly, you're wondering if many of your existing processes have compliance gaps. Could your company face significant legal risk?

That’s where myHR Partner comes in. Our HR audit service identifies vulnerabilities, uncovers improvement opportunities, and delivers a clear, actionable roadmap for long-term success.

When to Conduct an HR Audit

Companies of all industries and sizes can benefit from an HR audit. Common triggers that lead organizations to pursue one include:

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Changing labor laws, compliance concerns, or past compliance issues
  • Industry-specific regulations or oversight
  • Misclassification risks (e.g., contractors vs. employees)

Operational Growth & Change

  • Business expansion into new states or regions

  • Mergers, acquisitions, or organizational restructuring

  • Need or desire to be more competitive with hiring, retention, etc.

HR Process Optimization

  • Outdated or inconsistent HR policies and documentation

  • Lack of structured processes in onboarding, performance reviews, training, offboarding, etc.

  • High employee turnover

  • Concerns about HR efficiency

  • Inconsistent or incomplete HR knowledge

HR Audits Provide Clarity and Consistency

HR audits culminate in a comprehensive report identifying gaps and opportunities by functional area.  Here is just a small sample of “ah-ha!” moments that our clients experienced as a result of our HR audits identifying risks, challenges, and gaps:

Risk Identified: Individuals were incorrectly classified as independent contractors rather than employees.
Solution: The client partnered with myHR Partner for outsourced compliance management and myHR Partner led the change in classification, putting the company in compliance and avoiding potential hefty fines.

Gap Identified : Job descriptions and offer letters didn’t exist, creating confusion and a lack of accountability.
Solution: Under a partnership, myHR Partner created these critical documents, improving the hiring and onboarding processes and employee satisfaction.

Risk Identified: I-9s were not required of all employees.
Solution: The lack of compliance knowledge was a huge risk factor for the client, and through the audit myHR Partner was able to identify and instruct the client on this risk.

Challenge Identified: No performance appraisals existed.
Solution: myHR Partner took on performance management for the client, reviewing the existing process, providing recommendations, and guiding the implementation of a seamless process that worked well for the client and improved productivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

First, we will request specific documents for review, such as handbooks, recruiting processes, on/offboarding processes, benefits administration processes, and more. After we review these documents, both parties complete a detailed questionnaire. Our questions of you help us dive deeper into how you’re currently operating, what’s in place currently, what pain points exist, etc. We will also discuss your goals and vision for certain policies.

Don’t have certain documents? That’s OK! Through this process, we recognize gaps and provide recommendations for improved compliance and best practices.

Ultimately, you decide where to act on the findings. myHR Partner will provide clear guidance and advice on recommended next steps, and we can partner with you on any prioritized action items. Many of our relationships with clients begin with HR audits, resulting in long-term partnerships.

Confidentiality is a priority throughout the HR audit process. Your documents, the audit, and the assessment results are strictly only shared with relevant participants, to set the recipient on a path of continuous improvement.
