I’m deciding between an internal HR hire and outsourcing. Which is best?2023-05-24T08:40:46-04:00

This is a common question. After all, when you have someone internal you have someone available to use 40+ hours per week. If we feel you are best served by having your own HR staff, we’ll recommend this. Our company was created to provide support until the time comes that you need a team of your own, should that time come. (By the way, when you are ready, we can even help hire and train that person!) Now let’s talk about the differences:

Internal Outsourced
Someone there 40+ hours per week A team vs. a person. Three levels of HR support, specialists and a whole company offering best practices. We never get stale.
They are involved in the politics of the organization so decisions also affect their role We are always on the outside in this regard. We never are personally affected by decisions so we can stay objective.
Vacations, personal or sick time, turnover, leaves, etc. You always have someone. We set up a three-person team and make sure someone is always available to help you and your people.
Your company is evolving, and HR must evolve with you. Evolution is our world. We are progressive as a rule and stay on top of trends and best practices to assure that we grow with you.
One person is not enough We assign you a team from the start and we can scale with you.
Our HR manager is either getting overloaded with administrative tasks or overwhelmed with work that is above her/his level Your team consists of an HR Director, HR Manager and HR Coordinator. We can schedule more or less time at any of these levels. We even have specialists for those special needs. You only pay for the level you need, when you need it. It’s a fully functional HR department at your service.

Can you handle our location(s) across the country?2023-05-24T08:40:46-04:00

The answer is yes! We have clients across the United States. In this climate of remote workforces and remote support, we service clients on both coasts. Location is not an issue for us: even clients down the street mostly use our services on a remote basis. We spend enough time upfront getting to know your company and your teams that it is just like emailing or calling the office down the hall versus walking over to meet in person. Our clients find this efficient and effective. We are not wasting time with unnecessary meetings, being interrupted, waiting to talk to you, and so on. We also assure we have the latest and greatest technology so that we can be available to you. Of course, we have the ability to meet on site regularly if you are within driving distance or travel out to your location as needed.

How do you know what services we need when we’re not even sure?2023-05-24T08:40:47-04:00

When you hire myHR Partner, it is our sole job to get to know you and determine what services make sense for you. In some cases, we are talking our clients down from all they think they need. We will look at what stage you are in your growth, your plans and goals for the coming year and years ahead, and what issues are most pressing. Not everyone needs everything right off the bat. We can take it slow and add services as they make sense, or simply support your current needs.

Then we apply our team’s extensive formal HR training and years of experience. You’ll have top-notch insight into how to improve your workplace, streamline your HR and adopt best practices. We will recommend only what will help you succeed.

How do you manage payroll or benefits administration?2023-05-24T08:40:48-04:00

There’s lots of confusion out there, especially since some payroll providers or PEOs call themselves an HR service. And since we offer support in these areas, we might even make this more confusing. So let’s clear this up.

Your company likely has a payroll company or benefits broker that you purchase these services from. Perfect! We come in and take on the internal role of supporting these services. Payroll needs someone from inside your company to provide hours, deductions, employee changes, commissions, expenses, and more on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. In addition, your employees have questions, problems, etc. regarding their paychecks and need someone to go to. That is the role that we take on.

Benefits administration is very similar. We manage on- and off-boarding, help with open enrollment, employee changes and employee questions. Most importantly we determine what services your benefits brokers offer and make sure that we are not doing the work that they already provide you at no cost. In addition, should you decide to look at new providers, we can conduct that due diligence on your behalf and even help you transition. If you are on a PEO and looking to break away from this service, we can handle the entire process for you. We even have employee payroll and benefits specialists on our team to assure we are ready for anything you send our way.

How can you manage our HR without being onsite all the time?2023-05-24T08:40:48-04:00

Simply put, we dedicate as much energy on getting to know you and your people as we do on the HR tasks themselves. It’s all about building trust with you and your people from day one and integrating into your organization as if we work there. It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking in person, on the phone or by video conference or whether we’re e-mailing or texting.

How do we know we’re doing a good job? Many of our clients invite our team members to their strategic planning sessions, corporate retreats and even company picnics. We can be as much a part of your team as if you hired someone internally.

We have an HR team and only need to supplement our team at certain times for projects or services. How does this work?2023-05-24T08:40:49-04:00

Many people ask how we’re going to fit in and work with their existing team. If we were in your shoes, we would certainly ask the same question. Let us start by first sharing our requirements to even obtain a job at myHR Partner. Our team members are required to have, at minimum, a formal education in HR as well as hands-on experience, a tremendous work ethic, an exceptional focus on customer service and the ability to integrate into various cultures. We’ll identify your exact needs then assign our team members who are best qualified to assist based on their HR expertise. They’ll work in your systems, culture and environment as extensions of your team.

So, you’re an HR consultant?2023-05-24T08:40:49-04:00

Part of what we do is consult, yes. But what sets us apart from most consultants is that we actually do the work, too. We don’t offer HR advice or guidance and then leave you trying to figure out how to get it done. We handle everything from big HR strategy to the smallest employee details.

How does HR outsourcing work anyway?2023-05-24T08:40:50-04:00

You need help with HR, but the last thing you want to do is sink more time into it. Most of our prospective clients feel this way when they call us. “I’m exhausted from dealing with all of the requirements and managing all of the needs to maintain happy and productive employees,” is what we often hear.

While you might be wondering if it’s possible to outsource HR—and do it well—we can tell you from over 17 years of experience that we make it work so well, you will wonder why you waited so long to reach out to us. We get to know your organization, your people, your culture and what makes your organization unique. Then we determine what areas of HR make sense for us to take on. Finally, we integrate the two and create a service unique to your organization. We work to fit in as if we were always there and then we get to know you and your team and focus on enhancing every area of your HR that we are managing. We handle your HR needs as if they’re our own – with nothing less than five-star service. That is who we are.

Do we have a dedicated person assigned to us? How does this work?2023-05-24T08:40:51-04:00

You don’t have just one person assigned to you — you have three! This is one of the big things that separates us from most other HR companies. Each team is made up of an HR Director, HR Manager and HR Generalist. These experts have different roles to suit your organization. Your HR Director helps with high-level needs and oversees your account. Your HR Manager becomes part of your management team to provide strategy, direction, and insight — this is your go-to person. Your HR Generalist handles the ongoing administration. Each bills at a rate commensurate to the level of expertise they provide, so you’re always getting the most out of your investment. This structure helps keep myHR Partner’s services affordable.

Are you a staffing service or headhunter?2023-05-24T08:40:51-04:00

We’re not like other HR-related firms you’ve come across. Staffing firms and recruiters find candidates and place them with you, and they’re paid each time they make a placement. We’re different. We call our services Hiring Management services for a reason. We work to understand your hiring needs, create a strategy, and conduct every step of the process for you. We are compensated for the work we do, vs. a placement. This keeps your best interest in mind and our costs considerably lower. All candidates are yours – you can hire as many as you like.

How much does it cost?2023-05-24T08:40:52-04:00

There are lots of variables that go into determining the cost. Each relationship is different and unique, so your pricing will reflect your exact needs. (By the way, if someone gives you an estimate after a short phone conversation or after you complete an online form, be very worried!) You will love the way that we staff in order to manage your costs. You will be assigned a team of an HR Director, HR Manager, and HR Generalist. Each is at a different rate and we push work down so that you are only ever investing in the level of work that is being performed. No more, no less.

We’ll walk you through our proposal, break down the costs and make sure you understand them. We want to be as transparent as possible, so you have complete comfort in what you’re getting for the price. We want a long-term relationship with you. Our clients have communicated to us that we treat their investment as if it were our own investment.

What is the background of your people? Are they 1099s or do they work directly for you?2023-05-24T08:40:52-04:00

At myHR Partner, everyone you talk to works directly for us. We don’t employ independent contractors to manage your HR for several reasons. It takes time to get to know you and your culture. We’re deeply focused on the quality of expertise you get from our team. We have our own proven systems and processes that are constantly being updated, to keep you ahead of your competition. Our people are all formally educated in HR from accredited colleges and universities. Some even have graduate degrees. When we say we keep up with changes in HR, we’re not kidding. Our people get continual HR training so we can pass current knowledge onto you. Plus, we take care of everyone on our team so you can feel confident they’ll be with you for a long time.

Our lawyers say we need sexual harassment training. Can you help?2023-05-24T08:40:53-04:00

Yes. This is a hot topic that’s not going away any time soon. The best way to protect yourself is to train employees on how to prevent harassment and how to handle a situation if one does occur. We’ll make sure training meets local, state and federal guidelines. As a third-party partner, myHR Partner brings an unbiased viewpoint that can objectively identify and address any problematic behaviors that have been normalized (knowingly or otherwise) in your workplace.

Our employee review process isn’t doing much to help performance. What do you recommend?2023-05-24T08:40:54-04:00

If you feel like you’re just going through the motions of annual performance reviews, you’re not alone. We’re big fans of perpetual performance management that is an on-going process instead of a review once or twice a year. It’s easier to course-correct, learn about issues quickly and keep communication lines open. It is also how people have become used to hearing information and feedback. Interested? Let’s talk about it.

I just need an employee handbook. Can you help me?2023-05-24T08:40:54-04:00

Because employee handbooks require a complex understand of your workplace, we only develop them as part of larger, ongoing HR Partnership engagements.

Do I have to pay you for each person I hire?2023-05-24T08:40:55-04:00

No, and that’s one of the many things that sets us apart from staffing services and headhunters. You only pay us for our time. We create a hiring strategy and then do the work. All the applicants are yours. You can hire as many or as few as you like—now or in the future.

So, you’re a Professional Employer Organization (PEO)?2023-05-24T08:40:56-04:00

No. You may have heard about PEOs because they’re gaining traction with some small and mid-sized businesses. In a PEO, your employees become the PEO’s employees and the PEO leases them back to you. You pay the PEO a fee based on salaries–which means your fees increase as you reward your employees with higher pay. A PEO does help manage some aspects of HR, benefits, payroll, and workers’ compensation. There are still HR tasks that you have to do on your end. But that’s not us. We don’t lease your employees back to you; your employees stay yours. We support you and your culture and take on your HR needs while giving you flexibility and control. (By the way, if you think a PEO sounds good, check out our white paper, Seven things a PEO won’t tell you.)

We have some really specific and technical positions to fill. How will you understand what we’re looking for?2023-05-24T08:40:57-04:00

We know the last thing you want to do is spend more money trying to fill a position with a process that doesn’t yield results. We have a process that allows us to work with even the most complex of positions. And we can help you zero in on the strategies that need to be performed in order to attract the right people. We’ve worked across many industries, including manufacturing, engineering, professional services, not-for-profit, education, private foundations, retail and many more. Chances are, we’ve worked for an organization like yours before.

So, you’re a benefits and/or payroll provider?2023-05-24T08:40:57-04:00

We’re not a provider, but we can definitely administer payroll and benefits for you by working directly with your existing payroll provider or benefits brokers. And if you think you need to change payroll or benefits providers, we can help you figure it all out and take that stressful task off your desk.

I can’t hire or find good people fast enough. How will outsourcing to you help with this?2023-05-24T08:40:58-04:00

You might think that if you can’t find people quickly, an outsider definitely can’t. But we’ve proven over the years that the experience, time, attention, and tools that we bring to the table can often help you find the best people for the job. Our goal is to perform all of the tasks necessary to position your company to attract the right people. We can take all hiring tasks off your desk and put in the time and energy that’s needed to find great candidates. We can also provide advanced-level tools without any long-term investment on your part — tools such as an applicant tracking system to accept resumes in a professional manner and track the progress of your applicants, video interviewing tools, and more! We know how critical it is for you to make good hires efficiently and effectively.

How do you keep up to date with legal compliance where we operate?2021-05-24T13:17:45-04:00

It’s our job to spend the time and energy following regulations that affect you. You can rely on us to take your compliance very seriously. We monitor federal, state and local changes for hundreds of clients. We will let you know what’s going into effect and what’s coming down the pike–and bring you strategies ahead of time so you can be ready when changes take place. Our formally trained team members can help you figure out what changes need to be made in response.

How do I retain people after I hire them?2021-05-24T13:19:24-04:00

Finding the right candidate, onboarding them properly, keeping them satisfied…it’s a time-intensive process. Once you bring talent onboard, lean on us to help keep them there. We’ll work with you to develop custom strategies to improve your organization, enhance workplace culture, and nurture your team.

What hours do you work?2021-05-24T13:18:14-04:00

We are on the East Coast so our hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Eastern Time Monday-Friday. With our portal we can accept issues 24 hours per day and respond to those calls during business hours.

We need help with employee communication and morale. Can you help with that even though you’re an outside firm?2021-05-24T13:17:15-04:00

Yes. Looking at an issue with fresh eyes and lots of HR experience can help turn problems into solutions. As we’re getting to know you and your culture, we’ll give you our honest assessment about what’s working and what isn’t. Then, we’ll help you adopt best practices and put new programs in place. We’ll gather employee feedback, too, to track progress. Communication and employee morale are vital to keeping your people happy. We take it as seriously as you do. When your people are happy, we’re happy.

I think our hiring process needs a big overhaul. Can you help us start from scratch?2021-05-24T13:21:29-04:00

Yep! If that’s what you suspect, we’ll work with you to decide on the right next step. Hiring’s changed a lot. We’ve kept up, and continue to keep up, with modern techniques for hiring and applicant attraction. Finding the right people is too important not to do it right. And if your process only needs tweaking, we’ll tell you that, too, and help you make it the best it can be. Learn more about our Hiring Management service.

HR seems to be an often neglected aspect of small businesses. myHR Partner took the time to learn our business and listen to what our end goals were. I would highly recommend myHR Partner to any firm looking to develop parts or all of an HR department.
