myHR Partner CEO Tina Hamilton Featured in Fast Company

We’re proud to share that Tina Hamilton, founder and CEO of myHR Partner, was recently featured in Fast Company for the Entrepreneurs' Organization. In this article, Tina discusses a difficulty in today's labor market: employers have jobs they can't fill while qualified candidates are struggling to get hired.

America’s job market has a contradiction hiding in plain sight: Companies can’t find enough workers, while millions of people are struggling to get hired. Warehouses, hospitals, and factories are filled with “Now Hiring” signs, yet qualified candidates are still being passed over.

The problem isn’t a lack of jobs or a lack of workers. It’s that the two are increasingly failing to connect.

The article was first published in Inc. and quickly moved to the top of the list of most-read articles, demonstrating that there was a clear curiosity about the topic. So, we expanded upon the conversation with our blog: Maybe We Need to Stop Looking for the Perfect Resume. We suggested that organizations should get clear about which standards actually predict whether someone can succeed in a role. Standards such as:

    • What does this person absolutely need to know on day one?
    • What can we reasonably teach?
    • Which skills could transfer from another role or industry?
    • Which experiences are genuinely necessary, and which are simply preferred?
    • What qualities have made people successful in this role before?
    • Are any of our requirements eliminating capable candidates without actually predicting success?

Look beyond the perfect resume. Get clear about what the job actually requires. Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves. Recognize transferable skills. Consider people whose careers have taken a different path. Develop talent when the right capabilities are there.

The goal isn't to lower the bar. It's to make sure you've put the bar in the right place.

At myHR Partner, our hiring approach goes beyond matching resumes to job descriptions. We help organizations define what success looks like in a role and evaluate candidates for the experience, transferable skills, capabilities, and fit that can lead to long-term success.

If you're curious what a true hiring partner looks like, let's have a conversation.
